When your child goes to secondary school, costs can add up quickly. You do not always have to pay all the costs yourself. Here you will find all information on school expenses, who should pay what and how to ask for support.

The school asks parents to purchase a laptop and use the U pass for that. As the school has only recently started, the method of helping parents is still developing.
If you need help arranging a laptop, you can email the school at Utrecht@alamanacollege.nl. By law, the school must help parents arrange for use of a laptop if the family cannot or does not want to pay for it themselves.
Leergeld Utrecht does not reimburse a laptop for pupils at Al Amana College.

The school offers parents/carers who are struggling financially an allowance for school expenses.Parents who think they are eligible can apply for this from the Christoffel scheme by fill in a form and submit it to the administration. The form can be foundhere.
Not covered by this regulation are costs relating to additional learning resources such as dictionaries, atlases, (graphic) calculators and the student's own laptop. Through the educational resources bank, the school enables students to borrow educational resources from the school if it is not possible to purchase the resources themselves.

The school asks parents to buy a laptop and use the U-pas for that. The rest of the amount should also be paid by parents.
From the legal obligation to help parents with little money, the school may be able to provide a loaner laptop if necessary. Please contact the school about this.
Bridge class camp and trips abroad

Parents can order a laptop through Signpost's website and choose from 3 different laptops. The U-pas can be used to purchase the laptop.
Pupils with a U-pas are eligible for a contribution from the solidarity fund by means of a voucher. You can apply for this via s.van.riessen@grcu.nl
By using the U-pas in combination with a contribution from the school fund, a laptop with MS Windows and a 3-year warranty can be purchased. For the most expensive laptop or a longer warranty period, the parent must pay part of the purchase price themselves. Leergeld Utrecht does not reimburse this. With just the use of the voucher, a Chromebook with 3 years warranty can be purchased.

With the contribution from the school fund (but without a U pass), students can purchase a Chromebook with a 3-year warranty. An MS Windows laptop or a Chromebook with a longer warranty requires an additional payment. Leergeld Utrecht does not reimburse this.

The school is responsible for teaching materials, such as textbooks, workbooks, project books, exam training and its own teaching materials.

2. Costs for parents/carers
Some materials have to be paid for by parents/carers themselves. These are costs for personal materials that last more than one year. It may be an atlas, dictionaries, calculator, multi-map, tools.
Sometimes there is no need to buy dictionaries and an atlas (new). Children do a lot of searching on the internet. We recommend waiting to see what you really need. Sometimes there are special offers or you can buy something second-hand. At Leergeld Utrecht, you can apply for a School Supplies Card at the end of the school year to buy some of these school supplies. Unfortunately, this is only available for a limited group of children going to secondary school. Keep an eye on our website for this. If a graphic calculator is compulsory in the senior years, you can apply for it at Leergeld Utrecht.
3. Costs for laptop or tablet
Schools may ask you to buy a laptop or tablet for your child. If you cannot pay for this yourself, the school must help you. The school is responsible for ensuring that every child has the right resources to do schoolwork. Some secondary schools have a solidarity fund to help. They often ask parents to use the U-pas as well. From 1 April, you can see on this website which scheme your child's secondary school has and to whom you can apply: with Leergeld Utrecht or with the school. Contact the school or Leergeld Utrecht before the summer holidays. By law, the school is obliged to help. That could also be with a loaner laptop. We have made a letter that you can show to the school. It says exactly who has to arrange or pay what. You can send this letter to here find.
4. School camp, excursions and other activities (Voluntary parental contribution)
Costs for school camps, school trips, trips abroad and galas outside the compulsory programme are covered by the voluntary parental contribution. You do not have to pay this contribution, it is voluntary. All children are allowed to participate in these activities, even if parents do not pay. Some schools have a solidarity fund for this too. From 1 April, you can see here how this is arranged at your child's school. For more information, contact the school or Leergeld Utrecht. We have also made a letter that you can show to the school. It says exactly who has to arrange or pay what. You can send the letter to here find.

Bike
Do you need a bicycle to go to school? At Leergeld Utrecht you can get a application for a second-hand bicycle. For this, we ask for a co-payment of €30. If this co-payment is a problem, please let us know.
